This is a very cool company that is doing great things for construction and the planet. Who knew drywall could be so important? I hope we can find some EcoRock for our home…

Vail Green Home explores the home build process from its roots in design to the completion of construction. Covering the profound impact home building has on the lives of those involved and the environment in which the home sits, this project seeks to redefine and refresh the building process through the use and development of sustainable building principles. Furthermore, the project will serve as an example of re-investing in the founding ideology of human existence by engaging the lives of the homeowners, Ryan and Trista Sutter, in the building process and the finished home. Vail Green Home will demonstrate not only the capabilities of “green” development but also the importance of building a home less as a monument and more as an evolving tool for a sustainable lifestyle.
We sit currently awaiting the approval of our purchase of the Homestead lot. In the mean time we have begun preliminary designs on the home and have made the decision to use and market the build as a green building opportunity to showcase the potential of sustainable building practices and the overall positive impact such methods may have on those involved. The builder, Eric Wagenknecht, will be taking part in periodic “builder’s blogs” in order to inform an answer specific questions. Greg Hydle, a new media specialist, will provide video “snippits” depicting the more fascinating aspects of the project. All in all we are excited and moving forward. Stay tuned for more to come…

Sometimes just when you think you are at the end, it turns out you are only at the beginning. Trista and I approached and passed the planned ground breaking event for the home we had spent so much time designing when we realized it wasn’t the home for us. We loved the design, we loved the location, yet something simply did not feel right. We have put the project up for sale and have decided to move forward in a new location. As with anything that carries a vested interest and holds a special place in the heart, it was tough to move on from the Wildridge lot. However, having made the decision there is no looking back. We are now fully focussed and excited about the new project and intent on sharing the trials and tribulations as we move forward from design to completion. So…
Step one. Find a new lot.
We have gone under contract on a lot in Edwards, Colorado. The lot is a 2.5 acre equestrian lot bordering open space and National Forest with an outstanding Sunset view and quick back country access. At this point we have begun laying out schematic designs for a home and detached secondary barn structure that will fit the unique proportions of the steep site charecteristics. As always, it is our intent to explore the design process in relation to the natural environment and to take advantage of both traditional and emerging building practices. The sites every inch has been walked and explored for potential opportunities. An informal project kick-off incuded a sunset toast mountain style.
